From Open Challenge to Validated Solutions
Organizations are constantly evaluating new technologies, emerging capabilities, and innovative approaches to complex business challenges. Yet traditional vendor presentations often make it difficult to determine which solutions can truly address a specific operational need.
ExxonMobil adopted an open innovation approach. Rather than asking companies to present their products, ExxonMobil presented a real business challenge and invited participants to demonstrate how they would solve it using a common dataset and defined evaluation process. This shifted the focus from claims and presentations to demonstrated capability and measurable results.
Xrathus DXP provided the shared collaboration environment that supported the initiative. Participants accessed challenge materials, collaborated within project workspaces, engaged in contextual discussions, and submitted solutions through a structured process designed to support open innovation at scale.
By evaluating demonstrated approaches against a real business problem, ExxonMobil was able to compare solution paths more effectively, engage expertise beyond traditional networks, and focus follow-on discussions on the most promising opportunities. In less than three weeks, the challenge surfaced three promising solution providers with demonstrated potential to address the business problem.
